Where can I plug in my electric car?

If you’ve recently purchased or are considering purchasing and electric car…I’m jealous. I’m seeing lots of electric cars in Oakland driveways these days! Unfortunately Ford’s electric vans aren’t in production yet… I’m on the waitlist πŸ™‚

I used to have a plug-in hybrid. That’s actually where I first learned about wiring up outlets for EV (electric vehicle) charging. I bought the car before I really had a plan for charging it.

My first “charging station” was an extension cord out my living room window. I don’t recommend that method πŸ™‚ I was able to wire up a great little outlet near my driveway. I eventually set it up to have a padlock, too.

I’m grateful I can wire up safe, GFCI, waterproof outlet setups now! And I love seeing all the new EV’s in people’s driveways.

Car-charging outlet…. check!

Here’s a setup I did for a customer who got a sweet new electric Volvo SUV. Those cars seem awesome. He was threading an extension cord across the yard (trip hazard) and to a poorly-installed outdoor outlet that eventually failed. I fixed that one and set him up with a new one, right across from his parking spot. Now he can just plug the car right in with no hassle.

Old, broken outlet….

To new, waterproof set up and new wiring!

It makes a big difference in convenience and safety to have an outlet nearby. And I always install any outdoor outlet GFIC and with wet-condition outlet covers to be safe in the rain.

So if you’re like me and you got a plug-in car without exactly making a plan…be in touch! I’d love to help get you charging.
